Digestion

Salmonella bacteria digests food by extra cellular digestion. This means that the digestion takes place outside the cell. Salmonella secretes an enzyme to digest food in order to be absorbed by the cell. This enzyme breaks down proteins, fats, and nucleic acid into smaller particles for the bacteria cell to absorb.
